The funding needs for inpatient treatment for Eating Disorder (ED) patients is not diminishing. Recent statistics show that 7 Million women and 1 million men suffer from eating disorders
(Anna Westin Foundation; 2003). Because many hospitals charge $1,000-$2000 per day, not including physician’s fees, we decided to be pro-active and raise money for direct payment to such hospitals, on behalf of these individuals. In our clinical practice, we know of individuals who have up to $500,000+ in medical bills, and have taken 2 nd and 3 rd mortgages on their homes to fund their daughter’s treatment.
Currently, Manna Fund is being bombarded with inquiries about scholarships from individuals in need of funding. In recent months, our call volume has increased to a rate of 10 new inquiries weekly. Manna Fund currently has 28 applicants on file, and is trying to raise funding to award two scholarships this year. It is crucial that we receive more funding this year to help as many individuals as is possible.
