MSF hosted the "Heart of Manna" weekend in Atlanta on November 6th and 7th, with special guest Kirsten Haglund, Miss America 2008 (www.kirstenhaglund.org). "The Heart of Manna,” was a two-day celebration of what the Manna Scholarship Fund has been contributing to the community over the past year.
Our Friday evening event, the "Art for Heart" - An Art and Wine Tasting Event was held at the Atlanta Woman’s Club. Guests enjoyed a wine tasting by Hope Wines, and had the opportunity to view and purchase fabulous art work by local artists. The artwork was a compilation of paintings and jewelry that was arranged by Denise Leitch Jackson, who has created the Emerging Art Scene within Atlanta. Miss Haglund and Dr. Genie Burnett, Executive Director of MSF, both provided information on the reasons behind developing programs such as MSF.
Local artist Vickie Martin created an interactive, one-of-a kind piece of art, in which guests participated in its creation. This piece was raffled off at the end of the evening, and was autographed by Miss America.
MSF would like to thank the participation of the additional sponsors for the event: A Divine Event, Cascadian Farm, RR LLC, and Entaire Global.
On Saturday morning, MSF also hosted "Heart to Heart" - A Breakfast with Miss America at Guffey’s, Tower Place One. This was an intimate environment in which families heard Miss Haglund's story of how she battled her own eating disorder, as well as understanding more on the function and purpose of MSF, as reported by Dr. Burnett. Both Miss Haglund and Dr. Burnett also responded to questions posed by the audience. Sponsors for this event included: Cascadian Farm, Brick Tops restaurant, and Cooper Limousine.
Both Miss Haglund and Dr. Burnett were on Good Day Atlanta Extra early Friday morning to help the public understand about the great need for individuals with eating disorders to obtain the specialized treatment that they need when they are struggling with a life-threatening eating disorder.
Photos of the Friday evening event can be found here and on the Urban Lux Magazine website. We appreciate not only our sponsors for the events, we also greatly appreciate those who attended our events!
